Aligning with the Egypt’s national plan to provide safe and reliable roadway infrastructure, Siemens has completed the first phase of upgrading the operational control and monitoring systems for Cairo’s landmark Azhar Tunnel – the first urban road tunnel in Africa. The 2.8-kilometer tunnel was built as an underground roadway to give commuters additional access into the city, connecting the areas of east of Cairo to the city center and historic places, while reducing traffic congestion.

He was received by Joe Kaeser, President and CEO, and Roland Busch, Managing Board Member and CTO, of Siemens AG. During the visit, Sheikh Zayed toured the iconic headquarter building and received a briefing on Siemens’ long-term presence in the United Arab Emirates, its technologies and innovations and their positive impact on business and society.

As Iraq seeks to rebuild its power infrastructure, Siemens is supporting the country with upgrading one of its largest gas-fired power plants. The company has won a contract to add 700 megawatts (MW) to the Rumaila Gas Power Plant, which currently has a power generation capacity of 1500 MW. Siemens will supply its highly-efficient SST-5000 steam turbines, ensuring the additional power supply comes at no extra fuel requirement while increasing the overall power plant efficiency to more than 50 percent by converting the facility into combined cycle mode. This upgrade delivered by Siemens equipment will supply around one million Iraqis with clean and efficient electricity

Siemens Postal, Parcel & Airport Logistics (SPPAL) and Dubai Airports signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) yesterday to explore potential areas of collaboration that will enhance passenger experience and throughput, cost optimization and energy efficiency at Dubai International (DXB) and Dubai World Central (DWC). The MOU identifies the intent to explore potential areas of collaboration in the fields of data management, analytics and digitalization. As part of this agreement the companies aim at utilizing IoT technology and infrastructure as well as analytics capabilities, establishing a standardized and secure way to exchange quality-assured data across different stakeholders at the airports in real-time. For the digital technologies, Siemens is using MindSphere, its open, cloud-based operating system for the Internet of Things.

Today at the Siemens Innovation Day, held in partnership with Expo 2020 Dubai and Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), the company announced plans to boost investments into its digital presence in the Middle East with US$500 million over the next three years. Among these investments are the MindSphere Application Centers with two planned in the United Arab Emirates

Siemens has appointed Claudia Vergueiro Massei (34) as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company’s operations in Oman, effective April 1, 2018. Massei will be responsible for overseeing Siemens’ support of Oman’s economic development, driving business in key growth areas including power generation, transmission and distribution, oil and gas, automation, manufacturing and smart building technologies.
