Siemens today announced it has completed extensive service works of the gas turbines at Jebel Ali K-station in a record time of only 29 working days, a notable accomplishment for a project of this scale. The power plant is located in Dubai and owned by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and in operation since 2002.

Siemens has partnered with the Sabah Al Ahmad Centre for Giftedness and Creativity (SACGC) founded by Kuwait Foundation for Advancement of Sciences in Kuwait to provide vocational training in industrial automation, in support of a strengthened industrial sector. The partnership will see Siemens make available to Kuwaitis its SITRAIN training courses in automation, drives and plant technology, promoting knowledge and technology transfer and developing local talent.

Siemens has appointed Alexander Biron von Curland as Senior Executive Vice President of the company’s Mobility division in the Middle East, effective May 1 2017. Based in Abu Dhabi, UAE, he takes over from Joerg Scheifler and will be responsible for developing intelligent, digitalized mobility infrastructure across the Middle East, including trains, trams, locomotives, smart parking and traffic management.

State-owned utility Qatar General Water & Electricity Corporation (KAHRAMAA) has awarded Siemens the largest contract to-date in Qatar for the expansion of the country’s power transmission network. As part of the deal, valued at EUR790 million (QAR3.1 billion), Siemens will deliver 35 turnkey super and primary substations for Phase 13 of the Qatar Power Transmission System Expansion project. This marks a significant milestone for Siemens, which has maintained involvement in every stage of the project since Phase 4. Completion is scheduled in two years’ time. Siemens will be responsible for the design, engineering, supply, installation, and commissioning of the substations for the 400-kilovolt (kV), 220-kV, 132-kV, 66-kV, and 11-kV voltage levels, including gas-insulated switchgear, transformers, and control and protection equipment.
